Dual Enrollment
Dual Enrollment is a term used to describe a high school student taking a college course and earning both high school and college credit. It is also a way to give students a jumpstart on exploring and preparing for careers.
Benefits of Dual Enrollment
Dual enrollment, when designed as part of a student success strategy, can change the way institutions see students and communities, and it can help all students to see themselves as college material. "This is changing how the college looks at our population, and we are bringing hope to students who have all the odds stacked against them."
According to the Community College Research Center, dual enrollment helps millions of high school students get on a path to college each year. Nationally, 82% of public high schools offer dual enrollment coursework, mostly in partnership with community colleges. As a result of its reach, dual enrollment has great potential to reduce equity gaps in college-going and degree attainment by decreasing the amount of time it will take students to complete their degree and reducing the financial burden.
